Introducing Organization-Level Return Policy Markup

Most people when purchasing a product from a new brand or an existing platform often go through the return policy. What is a return policy? Well! A return policy is a general document that outlines all the rules and regulations for returning goods and services, refund details, timeframe, and much more.

Shoppers purchasing products or services from online e-commerce portals often check out this document.

Last year, Google enabled the addition of return policies for individual products using structured data. However, today Google is making another change and easing out the process by allowing users to add a general return policy for the entire business at once. In short, website owners or sellers have to no longer create separate return policies for each product.

Main Benefit of Introducing an Organization-level Return Policy

  • Simplify Data: Rather than creating a return policy for each and every single product, you can generate a single piece of information for the entire business and easily manage everything from a single place. It will not only save you time but also reduce the amount of information you had to earlier add for each product.
  • Add more visibility: Google may now display your return policy in a variety of locations, including brand profiles, product search results, and knowledge panels.
  • Save Time and Cost: It takes a lot of effort and money to keep up return policy for multiple products. By reducing this burden and adopting an organization-level approach, organizations are able to distribute resources more effectively. More significantly, it lowers the possibility of human error, guaranteeing that all return policies are correct and up to date.

Note: It’s crucial to include a return policy in your company’s structured data if you don’t already have a Merchant Center account. It’s recommended to implement return policies through the Merchant Center if you have an account because users can already do so.

Rich Results Test Improvements to include Support for Return Policies

The Google Team has also updated the Rich Results Test tool to include return policies.

All you need to do is just add the URL of a page or a segment of code to the tool to verify whether the markup for your return policy is correct. The tool will confirm whether the data from your return policy is accurate and correctly set up or not.

In the code, if you run an online store or local business, make sure to select OnlineStore, or LocalBusiness subtypes of Organization as they are the right option.

Below is the snapshot of code that you may add to your website.
